How We Got Started
Doug's journey in construction began back in high school when his hardworking nature led him to jobs that eventually sparked his interest
in remodeling. After earning an undergraduate degree and even trying his hand at law school, Doug worked as a laborer remodeling apartment units in Boston. Frustrated with his employer’s unpredictable personality and inspired by his own ideas for improving remodeling processes,
he decided to start hisown company, Scheer Construction, in Massachusetts, which he successfully ran for 15 years. Upon relocating to Washington, Doug closed Scheer
Construction and,in 2012, launched Lucy Construction, a company equally dedicated to excellence in design and construction.
Doug named his company “Lucy Construction” after his golden retriever puppy, Lucy. As he was brainstorming local names and considering Salish, Lucy was curled up at his feet, bringing him immense joy. This moment perfectly captured the happiness and passion he feels for his work in construction. Inspired by this, Doug decided to name his company after Lucy, symbolizing the loveand dedication he puts intohis craft.
